Are We Alone?
Think about this: There are millions of stars in a galaxy. There are billions of galaxies, if not an infinite amount! It is likely, and supported by observations of close stars, that all stars have some sort of planetary bodies orbiting them. If only 1 percent, that’s 1 out of 100 stars have planets circling them, and only one percent of those planets is an Earth-like planet with liquid water, then that still leaves billions of habitable planets. Are we the only life in the universe? We could be, but with all those possibilities, I certainly wouldn’t bet against it!
Don’t go buying alien repellent or anything just yet. Think about this, now. Traveling faster than the speed of light is somewhat impossible for us at the moment, and may be impossible at all. Even if we could travel at or near the speed of light, it would take us almost 5 years to reach the nearest star. Even if we knew which direction to head, we would have to travel years and years to reach other life. Then we might just find some weird bacteria or something. No, I think the odds of two intelligent species finding each other in all this vast space is somewhat improbable. What do you guys think? Will we be visited by aliens? Have we already been?
Check out this NASA article about nearby stars with planets.

I have to go with my gut on this one. I can’t believe there’s another planet out there all decked out with interstates and planet-unfriendly inhabitants. It just might be my own narrow-mindedness influencing that opinion, though, because on the other hand, (and there’s always another hand), how could there not be? Like you said, the chances of us casually running into each other someday would be way unlikely, though. The size thing is fascinating, say the other inhabited planets are way bigger than ours — would the citizens be gigantic compared to us humans? Or, go the other way — there’s a little tiny planet, totally populated and settled, maybe so small we couldn’t see it with our naked eyes! The possibilities are endless, aren’t they? I just know that if we ever do run across an alien, it will probably be completely different from any way we humans have imagined it to be! I love food for thought, and you’ve always been a great provider of that for me.

I agree with you. I have a feeling that if we do find other life it will be bacteria or something like that.(This one does count for the homework though.)

Thanks, mommy. Just what I needed. My mom telling me how great I am in front of the kids. he he he.
Yes, Zak. This counts. But I considered throwing it out again simply to see how many times I could get you to comment. he he he Too true. The simple life is the most probable.

I believe the outer civilizations have been with us the whole time. Think about the 7 wonders of the world. How can you explain them?!?!?!?! Human beings are not capible of building those incredible pyrimids, we must have had help from SOMETHING.

Maybe hiding my identity isn’t getting me credit. D;
-haha fail-
I think I remember reading somewhere about bacteria on Mars.
Life! 8D
Oh and yes. I don’t really believe aliens looking too different than us. I mean… Green skin? Sounds unlikely. We have our skin because of the pigmentation and it gets darker as our climate changes. And we all function the same and have a body because this way everything works. We have body systems (lungs/blood/digestive), feelings, senses, and I doubt other life wouldn’t have this as well.
People around the world look a bit different because of their culture or climate. So truely the people from other worlds must have different cultures and different climates, thus looking different. But not much.
And just like Earth. They will have different languages for not knowing ours. We have different languages in the first place because we all originated at different places of the world and created “language” to speak to one another.
Why do planets exist anyway? Was the “Big Bang” theory / creation of the universe an accident? We might just have been created accidently because we are just the right distance from the Sun to receive not too much heat. And If somewhere…. Somewhere there is a solar system with a planet the same distance as Earth from the Sun and the same age as Earth…..
You got life.
But what is the meaning of life.
What is the meaning of the universe.
Just to have cool galaxies there?
Then come to think about it. Without the universe. There would be no life.
What would we see if there were no sky and sun? D8
No sun would mean coldness and we wouldn’t even be able to live. The creation of te universe created life. and I know there has to be life out there.
I might’ve seen some aliens once too. ;D
But it might’ve been a dream. -sigh-

That’s an interesting point, Andy. Lots of people believe that some sort of alien race had to help us with the pyramids and such. hmmm. I’ve seen people use simple tools that would have been available to reenact the building. It would have been hard, but not impossible. Especially if you consider that the pyramid builders had HUGE amounts of slave labor to use. It’s kind of sad looking at the pyramids and thinking about the huge numbers of people who were hurt and killed to make these huge graves. It’s actually a cheerier thought to think aliens came down and zapped them up for us!
Yes, Amanda. I was beginning to think that the A.R. and the subtle, sneaky, humor sounded like you. You have tons of questions about the universe. Unfortunately, the answers are unknown. Except for the whole question of life, the universe, and everything. The answer to that is 42.
I’ve definitely seen aliens before. I think I have a couple in my fifth period class. he he he
Your theories about alien life looking similar to ours is interesting. I tend to think that vastly different environments will tend to make us look very different. We’ll see!

MMMMWWWWHHHAAAAAAA!!!! I know who Sparky is! We will make a alliance and confuse you to no end!!!! Fear us!!!
You know if there are people/aliens out in space, they could be planing a war against us with their awesome technology since they have visited earth; then they could have been looking for individuals to carry out their plan. Or scouting the land for their supreme race. I think it would be weird if the world was attacked by a outer being because then we, well, die…It’s not a bad thing to die, we’re all going to do that someday…Some sooner than others… But if we act quickly we can attack them and enslave the outer races!!!!
Try and figure out who I am…
Here’s some hints… go to these links and think very hard…

O’kay now I feel like a idiot… Amanda you weren’t suppose to tell her you’re name!!! *cries* I want a hug now… Anyways… you don’t have to look at the pics. Now since my awesome plan was ruined…*gggrrrr Amanda* But in the pictures there are awesome pics of Edward and Bella…(the actors and actress being Edward and Bella in the up coming movies… and the anime version of the Cullen family…(in the first book when Bella goes to see Edward’s family…)) Well yeah… don’t mind the random comment in the beginning of my first post… So you can guess who it is and it’s Kain… Yes the weirdo in your 3rd period class…So I have posted now two times and it’s about 10:37pm and my mom wants me off… I would make this post longer be oh well…

Aliens attacking and killiing us is a steotype. IF they find us firstr then they will have the advanced technology required to get to us and therefore they sould eliminate us but with all the posibility for aliens existing then there is a good chance that many of them are pacifists. Besides… mabye if we are attacked then they might have never encountered bullets or blunt objects which could rip their advanced technology to shreds since they were prepared for somthing else entirely. These are the quandireis of extraterresrtial wars.
The unknown weapons that could have resulted from needs that we don’t have.
Distances that we cannot travserse. If they can then they can attack us but we can’t attack them. Invincibility lies in the defense. Possibility of victory in the attack. -Sun Tzu
First impressions. We might attack them on sight regardless of their intentions. At one point Jeff Foxworthy addresses this. I can elaborate on it at school.
P.S.
Tsukuyomi is Candice NG in your third period. It is quite obvious by her outburst on March 4.

Yes, Justin. Candice was a bit obvious! he he he. I love your Sun Tzu quote. I happen to think that if an alien civilization is so technologically advanced as to find us in all this vast space, that they must be pacifists. The human race is far from peaceful and I really don’t see our race getting together as one to explore space anytime soon. (We’ll probably destroy our Earth or blow ourselves up with nuclear weapons before that is possible.) But any race that is able to explore space and develop this technology seems like it would have to be smarter than us about the whole blowing itself up thing. Maybe they’ll be really peaceful and come to make contact with us and accidently kill us all with a weird disease. he he he. Oops. Neat thoughts, Justin.
Candice, honestly– enslave the aliens? Have you learned nothing from history class? *sigh*
March 5th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Candice. omg Twilight teeheeee. <3
I know. A bad decision I had to make. We could have had immense power.
Not all aliens have to be mean. :’CCC
And isn’t there a theory that we can warp space and time by bending it and creating a short path to travel long distances? If the aliens have found out how to do that already maybe all they need to do is know where we live. I think we shouldn’t enslave them and should focus on loving them for more info and items. Like the Native Americans. 8D
We can trade them stuff. And we can share ideas and culture.

Yes, most people who are studying faster than light travel don’t try to actually MOVE faster than light. There are people studying how to ‘fold’ space and maybe travel through worm holes and such. It’s all very theoretical and not something we’ll try for a long time, if ever. I don’t know about your statement above…it didn’t turn out too well for the Native Americans…
